About Sugar Dragon (S8)
Sugar Dragon — also known as S8 — is a California hybrid originally developed by Paul Thomson, and it’s widely considered one of the best varieties for new and experienced growers alike. It’s a robust, fast grower with thick olive-green stems, and it’s earned its reputation on two fronts: flavor and reliability.
The fruit runs small to medium — roughly a quarter to three-quarters of a pound — with red skin and bright reddish-purple flesh. The flavor is sweet with berry and tropical notes and a smooth, semi-firm texture, typically testing around 18 Brix (mature plants can push higher).
