The 'La Verne' dragon fruit is a popular hybrid variety named after the Southern California nursery in La Verne city where it is originated. It has magenta flesh color with distinct flavor profiles and characteristics. 

This variety is highly sought after for its sweet, tropical flavor profile, often compared to melon, grapes, or berries.

• Flavor & Taste: The flesh is bright purple to magenta and known for a sweet and tangy "tropical melon grape" flavor with minimal acidity and a refreshing aftertaste. The Brix (sweetness) level is typically reported between 15 and 19.
• Fruit Appearance & Size: Fruits are large, oval-shaped (unlike many other Guatemalensis species which are round), with red skin and long, green fins that can appear wavy. They usually weigh between 1 to 1.5 pounds, though some growers have reported fruits up to 3 pounds.
• Plant & Growing Notes: The plant growth has minimal spines, but the mature segments twist, which is a unique identifying feature. It is generally considered self-sterile, requiring cross-pollination from another variety to set fruit.
